The class with a bit of everything.
Wish you felt more confident and comfortable on the dance floor at Lebanese or Egyptian (or even Iraqi, Turkish or Greek) parties and weddings? We’ll learn and practice the most common steps that women use in social bellydance, on your favourite music.
Build your skills by exploring variations on those foundation moves and applying them on a range of songs. We’ll pay attention to the structure of the music, creating combos and giving you strategies to make your dancing more interesting, varied and connected to the music.
Developing technique is important to make your moves look better. Expect some exercises to refine your body awareness and range of motion.
Plus learn a few bonus ‘fancy’ moves or combos for when you want to show off and impress your friends!
Send us your requests and personal goals. Song requests welcome: we’ll pick one song each week for a deeper dive, including mini combos and choreography.

You'll learn lots of moves - from hip drops to shimmies to circles - plus how to combine them and set them to music. Along the way you’ll also explore posture, foot and arm positions and pathways, and enjoy an intro to Arabic music and cultural aspects of the dance. By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to join the dancefloor at the next Arabic party!
The systematic course structure helps you understand and remember, plus there’s video support so you can practice in between if you choose. Improve your fitness, co-ordination, elegance, core strength and more, alongside other women who often become good friends by dancing together.

Bellydance Fundamentals: Egyptian Pop Routine
We’ve chosen a delightful Saidi Pop song, and created a full choreography for you! From individual moves like hip lifts and shimmies, we’l build it piece by piece into combos, and eventually a whole routine, with optional group performance opportunities at the end of the course. The song is in Upper Egyptian style, so you’ll get extra cultural insights into the dance of this region.
Choreography helps you understand the dance better by seeing how movements fit to various kinds of music, how they connect together into phrases, and how we can use space. It builds your memory and consolidates your skills. We might even have a performance opportunity down the track. Plus, improve your fitness, co-ordination, elegance, core strength and more, alongside other women who often become good friends by dancing together.

Block 1: Foundations, Rhythms and Styles of Iraqi Dance
In this 4-week block, we’ll focus on understanding the different types of Iraqi music and dances—what’s what, how to tell them apart, and how each style looks and feels in the body. We’ll break down key rhythms and learn the essential movements that go with each one. The aim is to give you a well-rounded introduction to the core elements Iraqi dance, from folkloric styles to social dances and professional performance.
Access to quality, hands-on instruction in Iraqi dances can be tough to find, especially in person, which is why these classes are so special. Our instructor, Andrea, brings years of deep, hands-on experience, having studied directly with world-renowned experts. She’s also a familiar and beloved performer in Sydney’s Iraqi community, known for her authentic style and extensive knowledge.

Iraqi Dance has become very popular recently, but online representations often highlight dramatic ‘wow’ moves (hair swinging and backbends) rather than the core movements. To truly learn and perform this style, it’s important to begin with the foundations! In this course, you’ll get familiar with the fundamentals of Iraqi Kawleeya dance: footwork, posture, dynamics, energy and aesthetic. From here, you’ll build up safely, with respect to your body and to the culture. You’ll also learn about rhythms and instrumentation; as well as important cultural aspects of the dance.
For dancers with some experience, it’s a perfect opportunity to deepen your practice, consolidating the movements into your body’s muscle memory and building a firmer foundation for future learning.
Important Notes:
This course contains moves that are not suitable for dancers with neck or foot / ankle injuries. You’re still welcome to join the course and simply observe the moves that don’t suit your body.
Recordings and Missed Classes
Each lesson’s recording will be available for 1 week, until the next class. This way you can catch up or practice during the week; and we can be sure to progress in each lesson. At the end of the course, a short summary will be provided for you to keep practising on your own.

This course is designed for dancers who want to move beyond individual technique and experience the joy, energy, and connection of dancing as a group. Together, we'll explore the spirit of Iraqi dance through choreography, musicality, and dance sisterhood.

There’s no actual bellydance in the course; dancers will be given extra tips on how to make it relevant, but if you don’t dance, it’s still a fabulous Yoga Fundamentals course.)
A regular yoga practice supports the health of your mind and body.
Discover the physical aspects of yoga ('asana' or poses) alongside the philosophical, providing a well-rounded holistic foundation to yoga that builds from week to week. Experience benefits in strength and range of motion, as well as body awareness and mental focus. For those who have done yoga in the past, these classes will consolidate your foundations and deepen your practice.

The “Absolute Beginners” Zumba Gold course is recommended for those who feel less confident about rhythm and following music, as the steps are simplified and progressions are slower.

Wish you felt more confident and comfortable on the dance floor at Lebanese or Egyptian (or even Iraqi, Turkish or Greek) parties and weddings? We’ll learn and practice the most common steps that women use in social bellydance, on your favourite music.
Build your skills by exploring variations on those foundation moves and applying them on a range of songs. We’ll pay attention to the structure of the music, creating combos and giving you strategies to make your dancing more interesting, varied and connected to the music.
Developing technique is important to make your moves look better. Expect some exercises to refine your body awareness and range of motion.
Plus learn a few bonus ‘fancy’ moves or combos for when you want to show off and impress your friends!

Bellydance Fundamentals: Egyptian Pop Routine
We’ve chosen a delightful Saidi Pop song, and created a full choreography for you! From individual moves like hip lifts and shimmies, we’l build it piece by piece into combos, and eventually a whole routine, with optional group performance opportunities at the end of the course. The song is in Upper Egyptian style, so you’ll get extra cultural insights into the dance of this region.
Choreography helps you understand the dance better by seeing how movements fit to various kinds of music, how they connect together into phrases, and how we can use space. It builds your memory and consolidates your skills. We might even have a performance opportunity down the track. Bellydance Beyond Begs / Intermediate: Entrance (Majense) Choreography
"Majense" is a term used in the Egyptian dance community to describe a piece of music written specifically to be the dancer's entrance piece. The music usually contains a prelude where you wait offstage; a fast section for you to come on stage (lots of travelling steps, turns, often with veil); and then a series of other segments to give a taste of the dancer's style, and what the rest of her show may contain; often this may include some folkloric flavours. It's a bit of everything, all in one piece, which makes it fun and interesting both for the dancer and the audience. All those changes will help attune you to a range of feelings and rhythms in the music.
To allow for our special Iraqi Dance Performance Project at 7pm, we are combining our usual BBs and Intermediate classes into one group. More advanced dancers within the group will be offered extra challenges.

It’s perfect for you if you have injuries, are not as mobile as you once were, are recovering from injury or pregnancy, or maybe just prefer a lighter class taught at a slower pace. But don’t worry, you can still build up a sweat if you want to!
Come on a tour of the globe. You'll learn the basics of many dance styles such as Salsa, Bollywood, Merengue, Flamenco, Cha-cha, West African, Afro-Caribbean and more. But it’s not about mastering the technique: we focus on moving in the way that’s fun, safe and the perfect workout for you personally. Everyone is different, and we embrace that! On the way, you’ll build your cardio fitness, co-ordination, range of motion, memory, balance and more.
You don't need a dance background, and you don't need to be young, fit or thin (but it's also OK if you are). All you need is the desire to have fun dancing your way around the world! Each routine is introduced step-by-step at first, to make sure you understand it, then as the weeks go by we speed it up and add more routines.

Open to everyone - whether you've got some yoga experience, or have never tried it before. (Non dancers are always welcome too! There’s no actual bellydance in the course; dancers will be given extra tips on how to make it relevant, but if you don’t dance, it’s still a fabulous Yoga Fundamentals course.)

Discover the physical aspects of yoga ('asana' or poses) alongside the philosophical, providing a well-rounded holistic foundation to yoga that builds from week to week.
