Bellydance Beyond Begs | Wed 8pm, Liverpool
with Laura, Wednesdays 8pm (55 mins x 10 weeks)
Chipping Norton (Liverpool) studio
Radiant Nubian Dance
Travel south along the Nile to explore the joyful and colourful dance traditions of Nubia! The moment you hear the music, you’ll be smiling from ear to ear. With roots in southern Egypt and northern Sudan, Nubian dance has a celebratory spirit that reflects the communal nature of its music and culture. The dance is characterised by delicate footwork patterns, lilting torso movements, iconic gestures and head movements, and group interaction. It's performed in long dresses with oversized head veils, which also become a prop for the dance. Course includes:
- cultural / historical context
- women’s technique, plus a little taste of what the men do
- how the dance is presented on stage
- using formations to represent the cultural role of the dance
- a lively group choreography with optional performance opportunities.
Course began 23 July, but it’s not too late to join in - we can help you catch up!
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Minimum 1 year. This class is not suitable for beginners. You’re expected to be familiar and confident with all the basic moves of bellydance, as taught in our Bellydance Fundamentals Technique course, as well as putting them into combos. Moves like shimmies, hip drops and circles will not be broken down and explained. More advanced dancers are very welcome and can expect to be challenged!
Catch-up options: This course is held Tuesdays in Bankstown and Wednesdays in Chipping Norton. Catch up missed classes by attending the alternative location.
Pricing: The course is $180 per person.
