Forget the high intensity, crazy jumping around you’ve seen on TV.
Imagine moving to the rhythm of upbeat, happy world music in a class that’s all about fun, fitness, and feeling fantastic, at whatever age and in whatever shape you’re in right now. Zumba Gold combines easy-to-follow dance moves with a welcoming, low-impact workout. You’ll leave each session feeling uplifted, energized, and proud, with a smile on your face and a spring in your step!
Let’s take a world tour together. You'll learn the basics of many dance styles such as Salsa, Bollywood, Merengue, Flamenco, Cha-cha, West African, Afro-Caribbean and more - but the focus is on fun and fitness, not on mastering the technique. You’ll build your cardio endurance, co-ordination, range of motion, memory, balance and more. Each routine is introduced step by step at first, to make sure you understand it, then as the weeks go by we speed it up and add more routines. Laugh, smile, sweat, and sing along!
Everyone is different. Make it right for you!
We have participants of all ages, fitness levels, dance experience and backgrounds. Some people follow along very well, but need to keep the moves more gentle. Others are super fit, but might struggle with rhythm and co-ordination. Some are fit and great dancers; they come for the good vibes, cultural insights and diverse musical choices.
“But I’m unco-ordinated…”
Each routine is introduced step by step at first, to help you understand it, then as the weeks go by we speed it up and add more routines. But even so, it’s not about getting it “right”. Do it the way that works for you: nobody minds if you’re on your left foot and the next person is on their right. We aren’t here to perform, just to move our bodies.
“I need a gentle exercise…”
Modifications are available for a range of fitness levels; you can even take the class sitting down and just focus on the upper body. We encourage safe dance: the motto is "shake it, don't break it". Learning the moves step by step will help you adjust to suit your body. This unique approach to Zumba® Fitness makes it low impact and suitable for all levels. We have a special focus on:
older active adults
beginners to dance and fitness
anyone with injuries or health conditions
pregnant / post-partum mums
“I’m pretty fit, will it be too slow?”
Once I get to know you more, and once you get more familiar with the structure, you'll find you can add your own flavour and scale it up or down to suit yourself.
For example, you can do the exact same moves but engage your muscles more actively so you feel them working. Bends can be deeper, steps and arms moves can be bigger, you can add little bounces and jumps. (Officially the class is low impact which means no jumping moves, but you can add them.) It's also OK to just enjoy it at the level it is, so you just have fun and get the stress release and endorphin rush without it being something where you have to "try" really hard all the time.
LEVEL: Open to all women. No experience assumed.
Class is taught face-to-face in a studio, while Monday night class is also streamed via Zoom to participants at home (this is called a ‘hybrid’ format).
Enrolled participants also receive access to recordings of the classes, so you can keep dancing every day from home if you like. This is a free bonus.
“I have been doing Rachel’s Zumba classes for nearly a decade and they’re an important, integral part of my week.
She is one of those one in a million teachers who brings an intelligence and sense of fun to her classes. I really admire her authenticity and expertise.
I also appreciate her use of world music and lessons about different cultures and dance styles.
Rachel is highly flexible and adapted amazingly to the changing landscape during the pandemic. I am so grateful to her for keeping my body moving during our lockdowns and I have continued her zoom sessions which she cleverly now runs simultaneously with her face to face classes.
Her prices are reasonable and it is so convenient and safe to continue the zoom classes from home. I am now able to attend an extra class per week as I don’t have to pour through the traffic to the other locations. That said - she is located all over Sydney so you’re sure to find a class close to home.
Finally, Rachel’s teaching style is one that enables everyone in the class to feel confident even if they’re new to Zumba. She ensures that they are well-paced and she is responsive to individuals’ needs. She demonstrates a variety of levels so that you can push yourself as hard as you like.
I cannot recommend Rachel’s Zumba classes highly enough.”
“I love to keep active! I've joined Rachel's Zumba Gold class for the last two years. I love her classes because she have different dances every term, and she challenges me with different steps and movements. She's accommodating all of us with different levels of fitness, especially Seniors. ”
