Bellydance Intermediate | Shamadan | Wed 7pm, Sydney City
with Andrea, Wednesdays 7pm* (55mins x 10 weeks) from 23 July
Bellydance Intermediate Level: Vintage Vibes and Shamadan
The shamadan, or candelabra balanced on the head, is a striking traditional prop used by Egyptian dancers, especially in celebratory and processional contexts. In this course, we'll explore vintage-inspired technique and combinations influenced by the Awalim dancers of the early 20th century, along with Golden Era stylings for dancing with shamadan. You’ll develop grounded, earthy technique that supports strong isolations, posture, and presence—useful with or without a prop. Balancing is not required: you’re welcome to join the fun with or without a shamadan (in fact we may practice using softer and more portable weights like a bag of rice!)
Throughout the term, we will continue to rehearse last term's Turkish Oryantal routine and keep it finely polished for Springtime performances.
LEVEL: This more advanced class is open by invitation only, for dancers who have consistently attended class and practised for at least 2 years. Confidence with all Fundamentals and BBs techniques, ability to learn and retain combinations, developing understanding of Middle Eastern music, readiness to dive deeper. In general you should always get in touch before registering for this class if you’re not already a regular.
Catch-up options: This course happens only once a week. Related, but not identical recordings are available. Please prioritise attending class every week to make the most of your enrolment.
Pricing: $180 per person for a place in the studio - strictly limited.
*Due to a pre-existing booking at the studio on Wednesday 27 August, on that one day only, class will begin half an hour early at 6.30pm. Please note this in your diary.
