Questions about the Habibti Hafla
Do I have to perform?
Absolutely not: performers need an audience too! We welcome any of our students to come along simply to watch, support classmates, and enjoy the afternoon. Other (female) friends, family, potential future students, and bellydance community members are also welcome.
Is it private for women only?
This is a strictly women-only event, to support our students who can only dance in a women-only environment. Photography and filming is not permitted. A selfie booth area will be availble for you to snap some memories. Otherwise, it’s an opportunity to relax in the comfort of knowing what happens at the Hafla, stays at the Hafla.
For our hijabi (women of faith) students and friends: We have ensured this event will be safe and private for you. There are no windows or security cameras. We will strictly enforce the no-camera rule.
Can children come?
The event isn't designed for children.
We need everyone to sit still and quiet during the performances: that could be boring and uncomfortable for kids. We've had past times when kids have run up onto or across the stage, or started making a big noise - which is really unfair to students who've put so much effort into polishing their routines! So we need to be strict.
Obviously, kids do really differ in their personalities. If your child is the quiet, well-behaved type who will happily sit and watch without disturbing the show, she's welcome to attend (under your constant supervision - so if you're a performer, this won't work unless another carer is also coming). I'll leave it to you to judge if she can do that. We reserve the right to ask you to leave if your child creates a distraction or disturbance.
On this occasion, no food is included.
You should bring your own water bottle. Tea and (instant) coffee will be available.
Alcohol is not permitted, but feel free to bring your own other drinks and snacks if you like.
Is food provided? What about drinks?
What if I need to come late or leave early?
That’s OK, please just come / go quietly so as not to disturb the performers.
If you are meant to be performing, let us know your constraints ASAP so we can try to arrange the running order to help you.
How do I get there? Where can I park?
Unfortunately, all-afternoon parking options close to Strathfield Station are very limited. We recommend taking public transport as it’s right beside Strathfield Station!
